This time we get to find out more about Bonnie's life including her mom Loretta and her daughter Avril. I love the name of their band the Mermaids. It is a fitting name for a little beach town band's name. It was also nice that Bonnie is not only talented at singing but at painting as well. Wouldn't it be nice if we could get one of her mermaid themed paintings? The way the three ladies were so close was nice to read about as not all families are that way. I felt for Bonnie when Avril was so set to go to Nashville to further her career and Bonnie did not want her to go for obvious reasons. What Avril did not realize if that mom was looking out for her the whole and did want her to get hurt, but at the same time Bonnie did want Avril to succeed. Poor Loretta (Glamma - love that name) showed her encourage and was always looking on the bright side and the good in people. So much so that she could not see that her love interest was just not good for her. All the ups and downs in this book kept my eyes glued to the pages. I am looking forward to who we get to hear more about in the next book. Angela - Bookaunthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17700701599985883408noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8105054467224289535.post-49507746611560243642023-05-23T10:04:00.000-04:002023-05-23T10:04:18.460-04:00Break time is over!

I had to take a step back from blogging for awhile as it was starting to feel more like work and not so fun. It’s a special place brimming with good vibes and the kind of magical assistance its proprietor will need to prepare for an old sorority sister’s birthday bash awhile solving a puzzling murder!

Courtney has thrown a few fairy garden parties—for kids. But if a local socialite is willing to dip into her trust fund for an old sorority sister’s fortieth birthday bash, Courtney will be there with bells on. To make the job even more appealing, a famous actress, Farrah Lawson, is flying in for the occasion, and there’s nothing like a celebrity cameo to raise a business’s profile.

Now Courtney has less than two weeks to paint a mural, hang up tinkling windchimes, plan party games, and conjure up all the details. While she works her magic, the hostess and her girlfriends head off for an indulgent spa day—which leads to a fateful facial for Farrah, followed by her mysterious death. Could the kindhearted eyebrow waxer who Farrah berated in public really be the killer, as the police suspect? Courtney thinks otherwise, and with the help of her imaginative sleuth fairy, sets out to dig up the truth behind this puzzling murder . . .

Meet the author - Daryl Wood Gerber
Daryl Wood Gerber is the Agatha Award-winning, nationally bestselling author of the Fairy Garden Mysteries, the French Bistro Mysteries, and the Cookbook Nook Mysteries, as well as the Cheese Shop Mysteries written under the name Avery Aames. She also writes standalone suspense novels and the Aspen Adams Novels of Suspense. Prior to her career as a novelist, she was an actress with roles in television shows including "Murder, She Wrote," and she wrote for the popular TV sitcom "Out of this World." Originally from the Bay Area, she now lives in Southern California where she likes to cook, garden and spend time with her frisky Goldendoodle named Sparky. Visit her online at DarylWoodGerber.com.

My thoughts
I enjoyed this new installment of the fairy garden mystery. This time there was more than one mystery that needed solved, from a stolen manuscript, missing items from a home, a thief robbing businesses to a murder of a movie star. Follow Courtney and her fairy Fiona as they try to solve the mystery with the help of the other fairies. The adult fairy garden party was fun to read about as you don't hear of too many adults wanting to have a party like that. I also like to read about Fiona growing as a fairy. The way Pixie the cat and Fiona get along warms me. This is a fun read and even though it is the third in the series it can be read as a stand alone but I guarantee you will want to read the whole series.

Angela - Bookaunthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17700701599985883408noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8105054467224289535.post-80707561623893652312022-04-27T11:39:00.001-04:002022-04-27T11:39:24.116-04:00Sand Dollar Lane by Sheila Roberts - Review

I received this book from the author and all opinions are my own.

Book details

Sand Dollar Lane by Sheila Roberts

Moonlight Harbor #6

Publisher : MIRA; Original edition (April 26, 2022)

Mass Market Paperback : 368 pages

ISBN-10 : 077838635X

ISBN-13 : 978-0778386353

Book description
Brody Green is finding it hard to recover after being dumped by his fiancée, Jenna Jones, then watching her walk down the aisle with someone else. Jenna is determined to make up for her love defection and find him the perfect woman, but Brody is done with love. First a divorce, then a broken engagement. I always like coming back to Crystal Cove to see what Jenna has gotten herself into now. I liked that the wedding expo and Jenna planning her own wedding were the setting/theme of this book. There is a lot going on this book, multiple crimes being committed and the planning of the wedding, and it makes the book read that much faster. This also made it a little harder to figure out who committed the murder. I like it when it is a challenge to solve the murder along with the main character. According to the FBI there could be as many as fifty active serial killers prowling for victims every day. Most of them will never be caught. - Douglas J. Wood

A serial killer is terrorizing the streets of the French Quarter in New Orleans. The victims are found with their throats slit, odd symbols on their faces, and a wooden cross in their hands. Detective Rebecca Simone and her team are working the case and when DNA from a local man is found on a body, it looks like the mystery is solved. The kindhearted, handsome cowboy made her glad she decided to move with her family after all. Through stories Frank shares with her she learns about friendship, survival, and an unforgettable story of privation and loss from a small band of Modoc Indians who were left behind after the Modoc war. When the tightly knit community of Silver Lake experiences its own tragedy on Christmas Eve in 1894, they learn just how fragile life really is and how important it is to lean on one another and open their hearts and homes to those they once tried to destroy.

Meet the author - Velada Allard McElroy:
Velada Allard McElroy is proud to call Eugene Oregon her home. Reading this book felt like you were right there feeling the same emotions as the characters. The author did a good job of making you feel as if you were a part of the story. The Modoc Indian War was not one I had heard of before and I am thankful to have learned more about it through the author's telling of it. Another tragic event in the Native American History. I also liked how this was based on true facts and that the author had a person connection to the characters. A very good book in my opinion.

Angela - Bookaunthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17700701599985883408noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8105054467224289535.post-4543553481152903422022-03-21T11:09:00.009-04:002022-03-21T11:13:24.210-04:00Murder Under the Tuscan Sun by Maureen Klovers - A review

Murder Under teh Tuscan Sun by Maureen Klovers

#5 in tht Rita Calabrese Culinary Series

318 pages, Paperback

Published March 10th, 2022

ISBN: 9780999494165

About the book:
An idyllic retreat in rural Tuscany seems like the least likely place for a murder….

Rita Calabrese is a lover of all things Italian—especially the food. So she is overjoyed when Sal, her normally oh-so-unromantic husband, proposes a second honeymoon at a villa in Tuscany. For two weeks, she’ll get a respite from her hectic life as a reporter, sleuth, and mother and be able to just lounge by the pool, traipse through vineyards and olive groves, and gorge on gelato and tiramisu.

Then Rita meets a suave Italian art crimes detective convinced that the villa is the epicenter of an antiquities trafficking ring, and her romantic getaway becomes a working vacation. As she quaffs glorious vino and learns to roll pici pasta by hand, Rita sizes up the other guests. Ostensibly, they have gathered for the nuptials of Alessandro and Giovanna, the Romeo and Juliet of the Italian archaeology world. But is one of them also a criminal mastermind?

When the villa’s owner is found dead in an ancient Etruscan tomb, Rita begins to wonder if something even more sinister is afoot. Plunging into an investigation filled with star-crossed lovers, bitter professional rivalries, long-buried secrets, and fabulous food, Rita finds that Italy never loses its ability to amaze.

Featuring delectable, authentic Italian recipes for caponata, pear and almond tart, peaches with mascarpone, and more!

Meet the author - Maureen Klovers
Maureen Klovers has held numerous positions in government, including a stint as a U.S. intelligence officer, and was a political commentator on DC 101’s talk radio show "Neighborhood Stuff." I had no trouble reading this as a standalone book. One of the reasons I liked reading this book is that I enjoyed the setting: a villa in Tuscany, a dream vacation of mine. The characters were a pleasure to get to know and to try to figure out whose motive was the strongest for getting rid of teh villa's owner. Just when I thought I had it figured out I was thrown for a loop and it took me until the end to figure it out. I think that is part of what made this a good mystery to read. A very enjoyable weekend read for me. I will have to check out the rest of the series. Don't forget to check out the recipes in the back, they sound delicious.
Angela - Bookaunthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17700701599985883408noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8105054467224289535.post-44049397332579232572021-11-10T01:00:00.055-05:002021-11-10T01:00:00.230-05:00Night Night Angel by Amy Parker and Slothy Claus by Jodie Shephard - Reviews

I received this book from the publisher. His staggering fortune was fought over by his heirs after his death in 1877, sowing familial discord that would never fully heal. Though his son Billy doubled the money left by “the Commodore,” subsequent generations competed to find new and ever more extraordinary ways of spending it. By 2018, when the last Vanderbilt was forced out of The Breakers—the seventy-room summer estate in Newport, Rhode Island, that Cornelius’s grandson and namesake had built—the family would have been unrecognizable to the tycoon who started it all.

Now, the Commodore’s great-great-great-grandson Anderson Cooper, joins with historian Katherine Howe to explore the story of his legendary family and their outsized influence. Cooper and Howe breathe life into the ancestors who built the family’s empire, basked in the Commodore’s wealth, hosted lavish galas, and became synonymous with unfettered American capitalism and high society. Moving from the hardscrabble wharves of old Manhattan to the lavish drawing rooms of Gilded Age Fifth Avenue, from the ornate summer palaces of Newport to the courts of Europe, and all the way to modern-day New York, Cooper and Howe wryly recount the triumphs and tragedies of an American dynasty unlike any other.

Written with a unique insider’s viewpoint, this is a rollicking, quintessentially American history as remarkable as the family it so vividly captures.

My rating: I really enjoyed listening to this book.

The Vineyard by Barbara Delinsky

In The Vineyard, New York Times bestselling author Barbara Delinsky (Lake News, Coast Road, Three Wishes) has written her most complex and emotionally rewarding novel: a story of two women, a generation apart, each of whose dream becomes bound with the other's.

To her family, Natalie Seebring is a woman who prizes appearances. She is exquisitely mannered, socially adept, a supportive wife, and head of a successful wine-producing enterprise. So when she announces plans to marry a vineyard employee mere months after the death of her husband of fifty-eight years, her son and daughter are stunned. Faced with their disapproval, Natalie decides to write a memoir. There is much that her children don't know about her life -- about her love of the vineyard, her role in fighting to build it up, and the sacrifices she made for her family.

Olivia Jones is a dreamer, living vicariously through the old photographs she restores. She and her daughter, Tess, have no one but themselves, so they cling to the fantasy that a big, happy family is out there somewhere, just waiting to welcome them home. When Olivia is hired by Natalie to help with her memoir, a summer at Natalie's beautiful vineyard by the sea seems the perfect opportunity to live out that fantasy -- an elegant home by the shore, a salary that allows her to hire a tutor for her dyslexic daughter, a job that is creative, hours spent with a woman who has led a charmed life.

But all is not as it seems, Olivia and Tess discover when they arrive at Asquonset, the vineyard in Rhode Island. While welcoming, Natalie is not quite the mothering type, as is quickly evident in the hostility her daughter and son have toward her -- it's a hostility that Olivia must buffer. Another dose of stark reality comes in the form of Simon Burke, who runs the vineyard's day-to-day operation and sees in Olivia and Tess an unwelcome reminder of the wife and daughter he tragically lost. And then there is the cruel reality of Olivia's own life -- the mother who never wanted her, and a career that has floundered.

Natalie's story, intended for her own children, enlightens Olivia as well. The lives of these two women of different generations, parallel in so many ways, become, in The Vineyard, a powerful and moving story as the fantasy of an idealized life, complete with perfect romance, crashes headlong into reality.

My rating: This was my favorite read this month. But Lana Lamar has a talent for escalating things and creating tension, which she succeeds in doing by threatening a lawsuit, getting into yet another scuffle--in the midst of an elegant fundraiser, no less--and lobbing insults around like pickleballs.

Next thing Courtney knows, Lana is on the floor, stabbed with a decorative letter opener from one of Courtney's fairy gardens, and Wanda is standing by asking "What have I done?" But the answer may not be as obvious as it seems, since Wanda is prone to sleepwalking and appears to be in a daze. Could she have risen from her nap and committed murder while unconscious? Or is the guilty party someone else Lana's ticked off, like her long-suffering husband? Yet she longs to find love like the heroines in her books. When a charming writer comes to town, she thinks she might have found it--or is the perfect man actually closer than she thinks?

Perdita Sweet has called these mountains home for so long she's nearly as rocky as the soil around her small cabin. Long ago she thought she could love, but when the object of her affection up and married someone else, she stopped giving too much of herself away to others.

As is so often the case, it's easier to see what's best for others than to see what's best for oneself, and Perdita knows who Tansy should choose. But why would anyone listen to the romantic advice of an old spinster?

Meet the author
Ann H. Following Tansy on her book route and getting to know each of the characters was nice. They each had their own personality. I think if I lived in that time in that place I could have had the same job as Tansy - delivering books. I thought the author did a good job of portraying how life was then for perople. Then you have the added part of a love story. Who should Tansy choose, her old friend or the new author who came to town? Should she listen to her gut or good ole Aunt Perdie? In the end I think she chose the right man for her.

Angela - Bookaunthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17700701599985883408noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8105054467224289535.post-90693959182368269972021-06-07T14:50:00.001-04:002021-06-07T14:50:03.918-04:00Sunset on Moonlight Beach by Sheila Roberts - Review

I received this book free from the author. How did you know where I worked?”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“I asked your mom.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“I’m surprised she told you.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“I threatened to cut off her internet if she didn’t.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“Can you do that?”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“Only if I unscrewed the connection at the cable box, which is kept locked. So not easily. But I figured she would believe me.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“And she did.” Sage swung her chair to face him. “Now you know where I work, what do you do?” “I put companies on the cloud.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">She thought about her phone and how it backed up when she plugged it in to charge. “That’s like off-site storage, right?”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“Sort of. Do you want a detailed explanation?”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“Not really.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">He chuckled. “Good to know. Companies hire me to get them on the cloud. I’m an independent contractor, which is why I work from home.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“Do you like what you do?” she asked.
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“Yes.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“Does it pay well?”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">One eyebrow rose. “Looking for a loan?” He winced. “That came out wrong.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">She eyed him. “Yes, it did. I’m making adult conversation. It’s nice to have work you like that also pays well.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“You’re right and yes, it pays well.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">He got up and pulled a bowl of guacamole out of the refrigerator, then emptied tortilla chips into a bowl.
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“I have chicken taquitos I got from a little place I know, if you’re interested.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">Her stomach growled. Somehow she’d missed lunch.
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“I love a taquito.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">He put several on a cookie sheet and set it in the oven, then started a kitchen timer in the shape of a tomato.
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“Want to go outside?” he asked.
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">She nodded and picked up her drink, along with the bowl of chips. He brought the guacamole, his drink and the timer.
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">His patio was much larger than her mom’s, with Mexican pavers and a big covered area. Along with the desk where he worked, there were a couple of lounge chairs, a round table and four chairs. She took a seat. Adam settled across from her.
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">She turned her head and looked across the low fence. “Why do houses always look different when you see them from someone else’s perspective?”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“It’s just a trick of the light.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">She smiled, then squinted slightly at the rear view of her mom’s house. “Is that my bedroom?”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“It is.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">She faced him. “You can see into my bedroom?”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“I can and while I’m more mature now, I will admit that as a teenager, seeing into your bedroom was always the highlight of my night.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">She thought about how many hours she’d spent there, doing homework, talking to her friends, changing her clothes.
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">She swung her head between him and the window. “You were spying on me?”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“And desperately hoping you’d take off your clothes.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“Did I?”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“Sometimes.” He leaned back in his chair. “Those were the days. You were my favorite masturbation fantasy.” He held up his drink. “I was sixteen at the time, so I say that with knowledge that my behavior was wrong and sexist and I would never do it now.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“Masturbate or stare through my window?”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">His mouth twitched, as if he were trying not to smile. “Stare through your window.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">An honest man, she thought, knowing how rare they could be.
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“So you’ve seen me naked.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">Something flashed through his eyes. “Not in a long time, but yes.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“I’m not sure how I feel about that.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“Flattered?” he asked hopefully. “You’re very beautiful. The next naked woman I saw was much less impressive. Of course she was interested in having sex with me, so she could have looked like a tree stump and I would have been delighted.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“Are you more discerning now?”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">“I am, and you still remain the standard against which all my lovers are judged.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">She winced. “Don’t do that. No adult woman should be compared with her sixteen-year-old self.”
<p style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;">The timer dinged and Adam went to get the taquitos. Sage wondered what quirk of biology and sociology created a society where women were valued for their beauty and men were valued for strength and power. She supposed it had something to do with procreation, but while it might have worked ten thousand years ago, it was less appealing now.

<a data-auth="Verified" data-linkindex="1" href="https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.goodreads.com%2Fbook%2Fshow%2F55004542-the-stepsisters%3Ffrom_search%3Dtrue%26from_srp%3Dtrue%26qid%3DH12eN8vrHA%26rank%3D4&data=04%7C01%7C%7C665dede00f21465f1c6108d90c2804e4%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637554188281131972%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=6WoDM4uv9AYH3Q7gV5sEON8AwlGeE4DkEJBvhtiJ9EQ%3D&reserved=0" originalsrc="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/55004542-the-stepsisters?from_search=true&from_srp=true&qid=H12eN8vrHA&rank=4" rel="noopener noreferrer" shash="LsCDapfKGPQO5szvmfUlkzc454M/gu+BVDgZE7VoDX5B6dy+8GjvvGgYGBn76+kafakI2+IcieU2llxOU9gN55YeBIis82g2Zgm4eqsrXhElstOjozJ8DtK6zw8wHvmniYauM3sSohdoAADe76mqKU3u6WwHzUJSHxnoWjnzReQ=" style="-webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; background-color: transparent; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: #1233d9; font-family: inherit; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration-line: none; vertical-align: baseline;" target="_blank" title="Protected by Outlook: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/55004542-the-stepsisters?from_search=true&from_srp=true&qid=H12eN8vrHA&rank=4. I enjoy reading books from this time period and I liked that it has a strong female character as the lead character. The author did a good job of incorporating historical facts into this story. She made reading about this time period easy. It is a book that held my interest until the end.

Angela - Bookaunthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17700701599985883408noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8105054467224289535.post-85599376771211865852021-03-06T08:22:00.000-05:002021-03-06T08:22:44.006-05:00February 2021 Book Update
Books I read this month

Where the Heart Takes You by Virginia Wise

Synopsis:
Pennsylvania, 1737. Greta Scholtz braved a perilous journey--and the loss of her beloved father--to find religious freedom in America. With two orphan children she's taken under her wing, she's trying hard to survive this rugged new world. So she won't let settlement elders pressure her into marrying reserved widower Jacob Miller. She and Jacob simply can't agree on anything--even if the unexpected feeling between them is proving an irresistible force . . .

After losing his wife and baby, grief-stricken Jacob keeps everyone at arm's length. Duty is the only reason he began helping the headstrong Greta make a life for herself and her charges. Yet he's grown to admire her, especially her strength in the face of obstacles--including him and his wounded ways. But wrenching misunderstandings and a jealous rival could separate them forever. To find harmony--and perhaps even a future together--Greta and Jacob must take a leap of faith and risk opening their hearts . . .

My review
<table border="0" cellspacing="1" class="myActivity" style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Lato, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; table-layout: fixed; width: 100%px;">

I liked this book but I have mixed feelings about it as well. I really liked the characters of Gretta, Ruth and Jacob. I was also super frustrated by Greta and Jacob. They knew they wanted to be with each other but they kept finding reasons not to be. I thought that scenario lasted a bit long and was making me angry reading it. But the end of the book had me so happy that it made up for the angriness. I was hoping for a little more history weaved into the book about them settling here for the first time. All in all I am glad I read the book.

Courting Can Be Killer by Amanda Flower

Synopsis:

Some Amish men don't know what's good for them. Her lessons on such controversial subjects as school uniforms and under qualified substitute teachers are earning her an F from her colleagues.

But a failing grade was preferable to Althea falling victim to foul play. Daisy was there when her body was discovered in the school swimming pool, murdered by strangulation. Althea was certainly a strict, opinionated taskmaster, unliked by both teachers and students, but would any of them actually want to kill her? As Daisy starts asking questions, she gets a real education in Althea's history, discovering more than enough enemies with more than enough motives to cancel her classes permanently...

Review:

Another great installment in a fun series. I did enjoy hearing the author's thoughts on the books that we have both read. There were quite a few books that I did not recognize since the author is from England. Some of the children's books I have never heard of. I am glad I finished the book though. It was a quick read but at the same time held my interest all the way through. I have not read the two books that come before this but this book can easily be read as a stand alone. Although I must say that after reading this I would like to go back and read about the other characters in the other books. I loved Noah from the first time he appeared in the book and really wanted things to work out with his family. I thought Mary was also a strong character as she knew what she wanted and even though she knew that maybe she should not feel the way she does it all worked out in the end. Worth the read.

Angela - Bookaunthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17700701599985883408noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8105054467224289535.post-8391760102978184042020-11-16T16:35:00.004-05:002020-11-16T16:35:31.143-05:00The Windsor Knot by S.J. Even though it was hard to watch one of my favorite characters struggle through this, she knew it was something she had to do. There was something about one of the characters in this book that made me think they were the one. While I may have been a little off in thinking who actually pulled the trigger for once my gut instinct was right. I also liked that we got to see Aspen's personal life progress. This has become one of my favorite series and I look forward to seeing what is going to happen next for Aspen and her family.
Angela - Bookaunthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17700701599985883408noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8105054467224289535.post-7837049738675254572020-10-09T11:48:00.002-04:002020-10-09T11:48:14.159-04:00Finding Dorothy by Elizabeht Letts - Review

Book details

Hardcover : 368 pages

ISBN-10 : 1529403448

ISBN-13 : 978-1529403442

Publisher : Quercus (April 4, 2019)

Book description
Behind the most famous movie ever made is a tale of love, magic and one incredible woman

Hollywood, 1938: As soon as she learns that M-G-M is adapting her late husband's masterpiece, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, for the screen, Maud Gage Baum sets about trying to visit the set.
Nineteen years after Frank's passing, Maud is the only person who can help the producers stay true to the spirit of the book - because she's the only one left who knows its secrets...

But the moment she hears Judy Garland rehearsing the first notes of 'Over the Rainbow', Maud recognizes the yearning that defined her own life story, from her rebellious youth as a suffragette's daughter to her coming of age as one of the first women in the Ivy League, from her blossoming romance with Frank to the hardscrabble prairie years that inspired his famous work. From the day I sounded out my first board book (Ann Likes Red), read my first poem (Block City, by Robert Louis Stevenson) and was swept up in my first long chapter book, (Little House in the Big Woods) I’ve been a passionate reader and fascinated by the lives and personalities of my favorite authors. But I was a late bloomer. I spent my twenties and thirties working as a nurse-midwife and raising four children. When I turned forty, I decided that I didn’t want to be one of those people who thought she had a book in her but never gave it a try, and I sat down to write my first novel. Now, writing is my full-time pursuit. My passions are horses and all animals, my children, singing in a choir, and long road trips through the backroads of America. I care deeply about issues that affect women and children, and especially those who are fleeing danger. But my favorite hobby is still the one that Mrs. Barclay and my mom got me started on-- reading.

www.elizabethletts.com
Twitter: @elizabethletts
Facebook: www.facebook.com/eightydollarchampion
instagram elizabethletts

My thoughts
When I first heard about this book I knew I would have to read it as I am a huge fan of The Wizard of Oz and always have been. This book was easy to read and enjoyable. I like that the story went between when the movie was being filmed and Maud’s life. I had some questions while reading the book about what was based on fact and what was what the author added, but the author answered those questions in the afterward that was included. So, I highly recommend reading that as well. I found Maud’s like to be tough in some aspects and nice in others. I did not know that her mom had such a part in women’s history. To be honest I knew nothing of Maud until reading this book. I am going to now look into reading one or more of the biographies that Elizabeth mentions in the afterward as I want to know more about Frank and Maud. I also liked how the author had Maud wanting to make sure the movie did justice to the story that Frank wrote and looked out for Judy. I did not realize how much of the story of the Wizard of Oz has snippets of Frank and Maud’s life. I highly recommend this book
Angela - Bookaunthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17700701599985883408noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8105054467224289535.post-29455026174441053902020-09-24T12:01:00.002-04:002020-09-24T12:01:28.222-04:00One Charmed Christmas by Sheila Roberts - Review

I received this book free from the author. She knew at that moment she’d found her calling of making people laugh with her words. She also writes mysteries as USA Today bestselling author Isabella Alan. Amanda is a former librarian and lives in Northeast Ohio. Readers can visit her online at www.amandaflower.com.

My thoughts

This is the first book in Amanda's new series which is a spin off from the Amish Candy Shoppe series. I like Millie and how she kind of does things her way. If she feels she needs to look into something she is going to. Her goats are a hoot as well. I love how they like to greet people and are kind of security for Millie. I felt bad for Edith and all she want through and hope her future starts to get better. Then you have Lois, I am not sure what to think of her yet. In real like I am not sure I would like her as she is just too outgoing for me, but she fits in this series and is a good friend to Millie. I love how both Millie and Lois can stand up to the bishop's wife as she can be a tough one. I also love Edith's kids especially Michah (I think that was his name), I loved how he questioned things. Towards the end I thought I had the killer figured out then I was not sure when an arrest was made, but I guess I was right. I think this series has the potential to be just as good as the candy shoppe series. I am looking forward to the next one in December.

Angela - Bookaunthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17700701599985883408noreply@blogger.com0
