Josiah does the only thing she can. She sends an S.O.S. to her daughter Asa to investigate the murder. Asa must also discover why a love note from Hunter was found in the dead woman’s coat pocket. Character is Josiah Louise Reynolds, the protagonist in the Josiah Reynolds Mysteries.
A group of people I knew put on plays for their friends. You know, something fun to do for a small intimate group. I had nothing to do in the evenings, so I thought it would be exciting – act in a play, be around friends, drink a little bit. I wasn’t expecting murder though.
What is your favorite play?
I think the play we were working on – The Murder Trap By Abigail Keam. We had just done Medea by Euripides. Boy, was that a downer. The Murder Trap was a light comedy about someone getting wacked off. I didn’t have to take it very seriously. Now looking back on it, both plays are about murder, aren’t they? I just can’t seem to get away from dead bodies.
What is the weirdest or scariest thing you have encountered in the places you have acted? I was at Wickliffe Manor, rehearsing for The Murder Trap, when I was walking down a dimly-lit hallway. I glanced over and scream. Well, it was more of a gasp. My mother was staring at me from out of the wall. Then I realized I was looking into a mirror. Oh, Lordy. Women really do turn into their mothers. I’d rather have someone stick a gun in my face than go through that again.
What is it like to help solve a murder? It’s a rush, especially when I’m closing in on someone. I have to be very careful though. My best friend, Matt, got shot by a rogue cop who had it out for me. I’ve almost been killed several times myself when the police have used me as bait to flush the murderer out. But I like puzzles and getting the bad guy off the streets. One time I did uncover the identity of a murderess, but I let her go. I thought her husband had it coming. Don’t tell anyone I told you. It’s our secret, okay?
Is there anything else you would like to tell us about you. I’m a beekeeper, which is how I make my living. I live in the Butterfly, a mid-century marvel sitting on the cliffs of the Kentucky River in the heart of the Kentucky Bluegrass. Besides selling honey at the local farmers’ market, I board Thoroughbreds. I have a very close circle of friends who keep getting shot because of me. Sorry about that, guys. I have one daughter, Asa. She says she’s an insurance fraud agent, but everyone thinks she’s lying. We all think she works for the military or the CIA. She’s a badass, and any man who crosses her is a fool. Maybe she takes after me. I’m not nice. I like that old W C Fields joke when asked if he liked children, he answered, “Yes. Parboiled.” That’s me in a nutshell.
