A Miracle of Hope by Ruth Reid

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

A Miracle of Hope by Ruth Reid
An Amish Wonders Novel #1
ISBN: 9781401688295
Trade Paperback

Synopsis: How far can God's mercy reach?
Lindie Wyse is pregnant out of wedlock and thinks an arranged marriage is the only way to preserve her future. Josiah Plank is certain he'll never love again, but he needs someone to care for his eight-year-old daughter, Hannah. The two take on their arrangement tentatively at first but soon realize they are each in for more than they imagined.
Lindie experiences a breakthrough with Hannah when she recognizes Hannah's special gifts, but a risky pregnancy and serious health issues threaten to demolish the foundation Josiah and Lindie are building. Will their growing love survive despite their struggles, or will their hearts become as cold as the northern winter?

My review: I really enjoyed this book as it deals with an issue that you don't normally hear about in the Amish community and how Lindie deals with her situation. Ruth did a good job with the story and the development of the characters. This is another book that you just don't want to put down. I found myself really pulling for Lindie and hoping everything turned out good for her. I am looking forward to book two in this series. Fans of Amish fiction will enjoy this book.

The Headmistress of Rosemere by Sarah Ladd

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The Headmistress of Rosemere by Sarah Ladd
Whispers on the Moors #2
ISBN: 9781401688363
Trade Paperback

Synopsis: Patience Creighton has dedicated herself to the Rosemere School for Young Ladies. But the return of the enigmatic master of the estate puts everything she loves at risk.

Bright, sensible Patience knows what is expected of her. At twenty-five, her opportunity for a family of her own has passed, so she invests herself in teaching at her father's school for girls. When her father dies suddenly and her brother moves away to London, she is determined to make the school successful.

Confirmed bachelor William Sterling also knows what is expected of him, but mistake after mistake has left him teetering on ruin's edge. As master of Eastmore Hall he owns a great deal of property --- including the land where Rosemere School is located --- but possesses little money to manage its upkeep. When debtors start calling, he is desperate to find a new source of income, even if it means sacrificing Rosemere.

When a fire threatens the school grounds, William must decide to what lengths he is willing to go to protect his birthright. And when Patience's brother returns with a new wife to take over management of the school, Patience suddenly finds herself unsure of her calling. After a surprising truth about William's past is brought to light, both William and Patience will have to seek God's plans for their lives-and their hearts.

My review: I enjoyed this book every it as much as I did the first one in this series - which was The Heiress of Winterwood. If you have not read the first one yet you will be able to read this one by itself but I guarantee you will end wanting to go back and read the fist one as well. Sarah does a very good job on her character development as well as setting placement. I enjoyed the bit of drama this story had as it kept the pages turning quickly. I found myself pulling for Patience and the school. At first I did not like William but in the end I really liked him. If you enjoy reading Jane Austen type books then you will also enjoy this book. If you are looking for a book that will draw you in and keep you until the very end or if you like historical books then this is the book for you.

About the author: Sarah E. Ladd has more than ten years of marketing experience. She is a graduate of Ball State University and holds degrees in public relations and marketing. The Heiress of Winterwood was the recipient of the 2011 Genesis Award for historical romance. Sarah lives in Indiana with her amazing husband, sweet daughter, and spunky Golden Retriever.

Blossom Street Brides by Debbie Macomber - Review and Giveaway

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Blossom Street Brides by Debbie Macomber
Blossom Street Bride Series #10
ISBN: 9780345528841
Hardback

Synopsis: #1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber has won the hearts of millions of readers with her moving and inspiring stories. Now wedding bells are ringing in the tight-knit community that gathers around A Good Yarn, a store in a pretty Seattle neighborhood. Knitters come to the store to buy yarn and patterns but somehow they leave richer in friendship and love.
Lauren Elliott has waited years for her long-term boyfriend, Todd, to propose, yet he seems more focused on his career than their relationship. When Lauren learns that her younger sister is pregnant before she herself even has an engagement ring, she feels overjoyed yet disheartened. Knowing she can’t put her future on hold, Lauren prepares to make a bold choice—one that leads her to a man she never dreamed she’d meet.
Newly married to her second husband, Max, Bethanne Scranton is blissfully in love. But with Max’s job in California and Bethanne’s in Seattle, their long-distance marriage is becoming difficult to maintain. To complicate matters, Bethanne’s cunning ex will do anything to win her back.
Lydia Goetz, too, is wonderfully happy with her husband, Brad, though lately she worries about the future of A Good Yarn. As she considers how to bring in business, she discovers that someone has beaten her to the punch. Baskets of yarn are mysteriously popping up all over town, with instructions to knit a scarf for charity and bring it into Lydia’s store. Never before has her shop received so much attention, but who hatched this brilliant plan?
As three women’s lives intersect in unexpected ways, Lydia, Lauren, and Bethanne realize that love heals every heart, and the best surprises still lay ahead.

My review: I have been a fan of this series since book one. If you have not picked up any of Debbie's books I encourage you to do so. Even though this is a part of a series I think you could still pick up this one and enjoy it on it's own although I recommend reading the entire series. As with the other books in this series it pulled at my heart strings. Following each character right up until this point has been fun. When you pick this book up you will not put it down until you are done which is what happened to me. This book is good for people looking for a touching story of friendship.

The Calling by Suzanne Woods Fisher

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The Calling by Suzanne Woods Fisher
The Inn at Eagle Hill #2
ISBN: 9780800720940
Trade Paperback

Synopsis: Bestselling author Suzanne Woods Fisher delivers her trademark twists, turns, and tender romance in this delightful and exciting visit to the deceptively quiet community of Stoney Ridge.

Twenty-year-old Bethany Schrock is restless. Her love life has derailed, her faith hangs by a thread, and she is spending the incredibly hot summer days wading through a lifetime's accumulation of junk at the home of five ancient Amish sisters. About the only thing that holds her interest is the spirited and dangerously handsome Jimmy Fisher---and he seems bent on irritating her to no end.

When the sly old sisters and a guest at the Inn get Bethany involved in running the local soup kitchen and starting a community garden, she suddenly finds herself wondering, Shootfire! How did that happen? Despite her newfound purposefulness, a gnawing emptiness about a childhood mystery continues to plague her. Encouraged by Jimmy Fisher, she will seek out the answers she craves---and uncover a shocking secret that will break her heart, heal it, and point her to love.

My review: Suzanne has another hit with this book. I was happy to read the first one in the series - Letters and was not a bit disappointed in this second installment in the series. You can read this book as a stand alone but I know after reading this you will want to go back and read the first one as well. There are a few twists and turns this book that will keep you turning the pages and wanting more. I like how this told the story of Bethany a little more than the first one did so we get a chance to know her as well.  This story brought up the issue of mental illness and how the Amish deal with that which is not unlike how we do. The story was touching for me and I liked catching up with the characters. If you are a fan of Amish fiction you will really enjoy this book.

About the author: Suzanne Woods Fisher is the bestselling author of the Inn at Eagle Hill series, Lancaster County Secrets series, and the Stoney Ridge Seasons series, as well as nonfiction books about the Amish, includingAmish Peace. She is also the coauthor of a new Amish children's series, The Adventures of Lily Lapp. Her interest in the Anabaptist cultures can be directly traced to her grandfather, who was raised in the Old Order German Baptist Brethren Church in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. The Winter Siege by D.W. Bradbrige

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The Winter Siege by D.W. Bradbridge
ISBN: 9781492795711
Trade Paperback

Synopsis: 1643. The armies of King Charles I and Parliament clash in the streets and fields of England, threatening to tear the country apart, as winter closes in around the parliamentary stronghold of Nantwich. The royalists have pillaged the town before, and now, they are returning. But even with weeks to prepare before the Civil War is once more at its gates, that doesn’t mean the people of Nantwich are safe.
While the garrison of soldiers commanded by Colonel George Booth stand guard, the town’s residents wait, eyeing the outside world with unease, unaware that they face a deadly threat from within. Townspeople are being murdered – the red sashes of the royalists left on the bodies marking them as traitors to the parliamentary cause.
When the first dead man is found, his skull caved in with a rock, fingers start being pointed, and old hatreds rise to the surface. It falls to Constable Daniel Cheswis to contain the bloodshed, deputising his friend, Alexander Clowes, to help him in his investigations, carried out with the eyes of both armies on his back. And they are not the only ones watching him.
He is surrounded by enemies, and between preparing for the imminent battle, watching over his family, being reunited with his long-lost sweetheart, and trying, somehow, to stay in business, he barely has time to solve a murder.
With few clues and the constant distraction of war, can Cheswis protect the people of Nantwich? And which among them need protecting? Whether they are old friends or troubled family, in these treacherous times, everyone’s a traitor, in war, law, or love.
When the Winter Siege is through, who will be among the bodies?

My Review: Let's start by saying this is my first book by this author and about this subject. With that being said I enjoyed this book. I think the author did a good job with the historical aspect of this story. The mystery part of this book kept me turning the pages long after I should have been done for the night. You felt as if you knew each character with the way they were each developed in this story. After reading this book I want to find more by this author. A great book for a historical fiction fan.

About the Author

D.W. Bradbridge was born in 1960 and grew up in Bolton. He has lived in Crewe, Cheshire since 2000, where he and his wife run a small magazine publishing business for the automotive industry.“The inspiration for The Winter Siege came from a long-standing interest in genealogy and local history. My research led me to the realisation that the experience endured by the people of Nantwich during December and January 1643-44 was a story worth telling. I also realised that the closed, tension-filled environment of the month-long siege provided the ideal setting for a crime novel.“History is a fascinating tool for the novelist. It consists only of what is remembered and written down, and contemporary accounts are often written by those who have their own stories to tell. But what about those stories which were forgotten and became lost in the mists of time?“In writing The Winter Siege, my aim was to take the framework of real history and fill in the gaps with a story of what could, or might have happened. Is it history or fiction? It’s for the reader to decide.”For more information please visit D.W. Bradbridge’s website. You can also find him on Facebook and follow him on Twitter.

Becoming Josephine by Heather Webb

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Becoming Josephine by Heather Webb
ISBN: 9780142180655
Trade Paperback

Synopsis: Rose Tascher sails from her Martinique plantation to Paris to trade her Creole black magic culture for love and adventure. She arrives exultant to follow her dreams of attending Court with Alexandre, her elegant aristocrat and soldier husband. But Alexandre dashes her hopes and abandons her amid the tumult of the French Revolution.
Through her savoir faire, Rose secures her footing in high society, reveling in handsome men and glitzy balls—until the heads of her friends begin to roll.
After narrowly escaping death in the blood-drenched cells of Les Carmes prison, she reinvents herself as Josephine, a socialite of status and power. Yet her youth is fading, and Josephine must choose between a precarious independence and the love of an awkward suitor. Little does she know, he would become the most powerful man of his century- Napoleon Bonaparte.
BECOMING JOSEPHINE is a novel of one woman’s journey to find eternal love and stability, and ultimately to find herself.

My Review: I am happy that I picked up this book. Even though I have read a few things online about Josephine it was not much so I did not really know anything about here. The fact that she was really Rose was new to me - so for me this book was even better because I was able to learn a little while reading. Heather did a good job with the character development, scene description and historical aspect. This is a good book for all historical fiction fans.

About the author: Heather Webb grew up a military brat and naturally became obsessed with travel, culture, and languages. She put her degrees to good use teaching high school French for nearly a decade before turning to full time novel writing and freelance editing.
When not writing, Heather flexes her foodie skills or looks for excuses to head to the other side of the world. For more information please visit Heather’s website. You can also find her on FacebookPinterest and Twitter.

In Like Flynn by Rhys Bowen

In Like Flynn - Molly Murphy Mystery #4
By Rhys Bowen
ISBN: 9780312997007
Mass Market Paperback

Synopsis:
Fledgling private investigator Molly Murphy's latest assignment gives her the opportunity to escape the typhoid epidemic sweeping across New York City in the summer of 1902 for the lush Hudson River Valley. And it comes from an unlikely source-Captain Daniel Sullivan, a New York City police detective and erstwhile beau of Molly's. She has vowed to keep him at arm's length until he can rid himself of his socialite fiance, but she can't pass up the chance to take advantage of his offer of a real detective job.
Daniel hires Molly to go undercover inside the country household of Senator Barney Flynn, in Peekskill, New York. Flynn's wife, Theresa, has become the latest devotee of a pair of spiritualists known as the Sorensen Sisters. The frail Theresa is desperate to use the sisters' alleged abilities to hold a séance to contact her infant son, who was kidnapped five years ago and never found; the accused kidnapper was killed before he could tell police where the boy was being held. But the police are sure the women are frauds.
When Molly allows herself to be distracted from the Sorensen Sisters and the members of the Flynn household by the unsolved kidnapping, it is a race against time to find out what's really going on before it's too late.

My Review:
I have enjoyed this entire series including this one. It has been fun following Molly's life and her adventures. This book had a good mystery in trying to figure out who actually took the baby. I thought I had it figured out but there was a twist in the end and I was wrong. Molly of course gets herself tangled up in a mess again and finds herself in danger but you will have to read to find out what happens. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

About Cloaked in Danger

Publication Date: January 27, 2014 by Carina Press
eBook: ASIN: B00F93X7ZI

Synopsis:
Aria Whitney has little in common with the delicate ladies of London society. Her famous father made his fortune hunting archaeological treasures, and her rustic upbringing has left her ill prepared for a life of parties and frippery. But when Gideon Whitney goes missing in Egypt, Aria must embrace the unknown. Armed with only the short list of highborn men who’d backed her father’s venture, she poses as a woman looking for a husband. She doesn’t intend to find one. Adam Willoughby, Earl of Merewood, finds London’s strangest new debutante fascinating, but when he catches her investigating his family’s secrets, he threatens to ruin her reputation. He doesn’t intend to enjoy it so much.
When their lustful indiscretion is discovered, Adam finds that he regrets nothing. But now, as Aria’s father’s enemy draws near, Adam must convince his betrothed that she can trust him with her own secrets…before it’s too late.

About the author:
Jeannie Ruesch wrote her first story at the age of the six, prompting her to give up an illustrious, hours-long ambition of becoming a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader and declare that writing was her destiny. That journey to destiny took a few detours along the way, including a career in marketing and design. Her first novel, a fairy-tale like historical romance, was published in 2009, but the darker side of life had always captivated her. So after a dinner conversation with friends about the best way to hide a dead body, she knew she had to find a way to incorporate suspense into her writing. (The legal outlet for her fascination.) Today, she continues writing what she loves to read – stories of history, romance and suspense. She lives in Northern California with her husband, their son and an 80 pound lapdog lab named Cooper. She is also the creator of the WIP Notebook, a writer’s tool to help stay organized while you write, which you can find at her website. You can also follow her onFacebookTwitterGoodreads and Pinterest.

This is the story of Isabella, the only woman ever to invade England - and win.

My Review: First, I have a confession to make I have not finished this book yet and not fault to the book on that. There was a little hiccup and received the book a little late for me to get it finished but I still wanted to tell you all about the book. This is the first book I have read by this author and so far it is an enjoyable book to read and I am sure the rest will be just as good. I have not read an books by this author before but the subject matter caught my attention. Being a fan of historical fiction I have not read much on France so was excited to receive this book. The author is doing a good job with the historical aspect of the story and making so I am really getting to know Isabella. Isabella was a strong woman as I am learning from this story. If you are a historical fiction fan then I suggest this book for you.
