The Last Woman Standing by Thelma Adams - Review and Giveaway

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review

Published: July 1, 2016
Number of pages: 298
Genre: Historical Fiction

Synopsis:
Two decades after the Civil War, Josephine Marcus, the teenage daughter of Jewish immigrants, is lured west with the promise of marriage to Johnny Behan, one of Arizona’s famous lawmen. She leaves her San Francisco home to join Behan in Tombstone, Arizona, a magnet for miners (and outlaws) attracted by the silver boom. Though united by the glint of metal, Tombstone is plagued by divided loyalties: between Confederates and Unionists, Lincoln Republicans and Democrats.

But when the silver-tongued Behan proves unreliable, it is legendary frontiersman Wyatt Earp who emerges as Josephine’s match. As the couple’s romance sparks, Behan’s jealousy ignites a rivalry destined for the history books…

At once an epic account of an improbable romance and a retelling of an iconic American tale, The Last Woman Standing recalls the famed gunfight at the O.K. Corral through the eyes of a spunky heroine who sought her happy ending in a lawless outpost—with a fierce will and an unflagging spirit.

What did I think of this book:
I have been fascinated by Wyatt Earp for a very long time so I was excited to get to read this book about the woman he loved. In my opinion the author did a good job of telling Josephine's story in her own words and in the way she wanted to see her. I know a little about Josephine and the author did change a few things but for me the story was still enjoyable. Josephine was a strong woman and it shows through in this book. The author did a good job of getting the time and place down. The descriptions were done well. Another thing I liked was how this story showed the love story between Josephine and Wyatt and then how they just wanted to remain private after the very public fight at O.K. Corral. This is a good love story as well as a good historical fiction telling of a true story. I will have to check out some other books by this author as all in all I thought she did a good job and kept me entertained.

  1. Josie has always been my favorite "minor" character in the story of the Earps - I'm excited to learn more about her and her relationship with Wyatt.

Thanks for being a part of the tour!

  2. This is such a boring answer -- a judge and lawyer in my home state who is something of a role model Chief Justice Robert Wilentz (b. 1927 - d. ca. 1996). My favorite figure in history is Elizabeth I -- GLORIANA(!) But, there's plenty to read on that character! ;-) Thanks for featuring this exciting new release and the chance to win! Best wishes, Kara S
