Interview:
1. Who or what inspired you to start writing?
Joyce: I can’t remember a time that I didn’t write.Jim: But together, we started writing in the late 80s when we were looking for the next phase of our lives as our kids were growing up. We had run an office supply for 15 years together and wanted to try something else. I didn’t write but I loved to read and I tried to be a fast learner.
2. What do you do to help you get over writer's block?
Jim: Maybe because there are two of us, we never have writer’s block. I suppose if we did, we’d talk aver the story until we knew what was wrong.
3. Do you have scheduled writing time or a certain amount of words you write each day?
Joyce: Yes. We write every morning Monday through Friday, about 5,000 words per day. We do revisions and edits in the afternoons with promotion work.
4. Where do you get your ideas for your books?
Jim: It all depends on the book. Give ‘Em Pumpkin to Talk About came about because we passed an abandoned farm on a back road with a sign that said Pumpkin Patch. It was hanging by one chain and washed out just like in the story. We’re not sure what it was about it but it inspired us.
5. When you are not writing what do you like to do?
Jim: Tinker with computers, drive on back roads, watch old movies.
Joyce: Photography, watercolor, garden.
6. What one piece of advice would you like to give to aspiring writers?
Never give up. If you really want to write, WRITE!
7. Who is your favorite author or book that you would like to recommend to your readers?
Jim: Charlaine Harris.
Joyce: Tanith Lee or Barbara Hambly.
8. If you could meet any famous person dead or alive who would it be and why?
Joyce: Mary Shelley. She was a genius!
Jim: Andrea Norton. Loved her work!
9. If you could visit anywhere in the world where would you like to visit?
Jim: Hawaii.
Joyce: Delphi.

ReplyDeleteI have loved the title is ever since I heard it. Reminds me of the Julia Roberts/Dennis Quaid movie called Give 'em Something to Talk About. When I read the premise I was really hooked.
ReplyDeleteFun WandA! I didn't know they have been writing together since the 80s.
