Guest Post Review:

Book three in the Christmas Mail Order Angels series, The Reliable Cowboy, is a delightful holiday, inspirational read. This easy going and entertaining mail-order-bride, or in this case, mail-order-angel, story will captivate readers from page one with its enjoyable story and splendid characters. Readers will thoroughly enjoy this light, quick, Christmas story. I would recommend this lighthearted and fun read to those that enjoy novella collections, as well as holiday themed stories.

Interview:
1. How did you get started as an author? What or whom inspired you?
I’ve always loved to write, but I got serious about writing fiction in 1999. I told my husband I had a book in my head, and he said, “Write it down!”

2. How many books have you written and in what genres?
I have published about 60 novels and novellas. They’re split about evenly between historical romance and contemporary, either mystery, suspense, or romance. I’ve also published two children’s books.

3. What writing projects are you currently working on? What can you tell us about these projects?
I’m doing a cozy mystery for Guideposts right now, as well as another western romance novella.

4. What does your writing process look like?
I do a lot of planning before I start to write the book. I like to have a detailed outline, and if it’s a series then I like a series guide with all the characters and places used in the books listed, as well as other information such as characters’ pets and cars.

5. Where is your favorite place to write?
My office is a spare bedroom in our house. It’s a bit cluttered. Picture six bookcases, four file cabinets, a desk, and lots of clutter.

6. How important are the names in your novels? How do you choose names for your characters? Do you have any name resources you would suggest?
Mostly, I try to pick names I like that are appropriate to the period. Sometimes I use baby name books or a phone book.

7. What authors/novels that you enjoy would you recommend?
I love Juliana Deering’s mysteries and Vickie McDonough’s westerns. I also cherish my Van Reid books (The Moosepath League series) and my Dorothy Sayers paperbacks.

8. Where is your favorite place to read and why?
I usually read either in the living room or in bed in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep.

9. What period of history interests you the most?
I love the 1800s, just before modern technology burst upon the words. I also love to read about the Middle Ages.

10. What inspired the idea for The Reliable Cowboy?
When I got married, I moved clear across the country, away from my home and family in Maine. I’ve always sympathized with historical brides who did this. In their day, communication was slow and uncertain. I’ve always thought these women must be very brave.

11. What other hobbies do you enjoy when you are not writing?
I love spending time with my grandchildren when I can, and I like to do logic puzzles and read. I also love animals.
