Meet the author - Judy Penz Sheluk
Judy Penz Sheluk is the author of two mystery series: The Glass Dolphin Mysteries (THE HANGED MAN’S NOOSE
and A HOLE IN ONE
) and The Marketville Mysteries (SKELETONS IN THE ATTIC
). Judy’s short crime fiction appears is several collections. She is a member of Sisters in Crime, International Thriller Writers, the Short Mystery Fiction Society, and Crime Writers of Canada, where she currently serves on the Board of Directors as the Regional Representative for Toronto/Southern Ontario. What made you want to start an investigation company?
I’d learned a fair bit about investigation over the past year as I researched my mother’s disappearance thirty years earlier, when I was just six-years-old. I’d quit my day job working at the call center of a bank’s call center, and I’ll be honest, I was in no rush to return to a nine-to-five job where my every movement was being supervised. I decided to call on my friend, Chantelle Marchand (now business partner) and two friends who helped me on my mother’s case. Chantelle’s expertise is genealogy, Shirley is a retired archives/research librarian, and Misty is a self-proclaimed psychic who is tuned into tarot. It’s an unusual combination, but we’re making it work. Sometimes I call on my friend, Arabella, who owns an antiques shop. She’s the one who referred our first client to us, for which I’m incredibly grateful.
What is your most memorable case so far?
Ha! Well, we’ve actually only had one official case that’s been solved. That’s the one I write about in Past & Present, and so I guess that’s my favorite. But Judy has me writing a third book based on a newspaper article she read a few months ago. She’s got me doing no end of research, and we haven’t yet solved that case. But I’m excited about it.
What is the weirdest or scariest thing you have encountered in the places you have searched?
OMG! I found an actual skeleton…in a coffin…in the attic of the Marketville house I inherited. I wrote about that in Skeletons in the Attic. That was my first book.
What is it like to help solve a murder?
It’s hard to explain, because even if you do solve it, that doesn’t necessarily mean justice has been served, and it certainly doesn’t bring the dead back to life.
Is there anything else you would like to tell us about you?
Just that I’m so happy to be here, and hope you’ll read my stories.

My thoughts
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I enjoyed it. I liked the setting and the subject of this story. The town was a quaint little town that was nice to get to know the people that live there. I liked that there was both a genealogist and physic involved in the story. The author also included some plot twists that made you want to keep reading to see what was going to happen next. All in all an enjoyable well written mystery book.
