Mickey Mouse, Tinkerbell, Cinderella Castle. Has there ever been a time that these words did not invoke visions of Disneyland in all its glory. Walking through the gates and seeing that first glimpse of Cinderella castle is a look directly into the imagination of creator Walt Disney. Disney took all of our favorite childhood stories from fairy tales to science fiction and placed his guests right into the middle of the story. Ride on a raft with Tom Sawyer, ride through space with Jules Verne, save Snow White from the evil queen. All of the stories ending with Happily Ever After.

Writing The Great Disneyland Scavenger Hunt is a love story to Walt Disney’s vision. In its pages, I take guests through Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure as seen through my eyes. For over forty years, I have had a love affair with all things Disney. As an annual pass holder for over twenty-five years, I have seen the Disney parks from many different perspectives. My first visit as a small child with my family when every part of the parks seemed bigger than life. As a young adult and I thrilled to ride Space Mountain and Indiana Jones and The Temple of the Forbidden Eye. As a new parent, I was given the gift of seeing the parks once again through the eyes of a child as I took roll after roll of film watching my own daughter interact with the characters. Even through all of my changes, Disneyland has been changing even more from opening day July 17, 1955 to The opening of Haunted Mansion in 1969 to the rededication of Fantasyland in the 1980’s. Walt Disney’s immortal words, “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.”

Now I take you on a journey through Disneyland resort to discover for yourself:

· Which of the seven dwarves is seen winking at you as you exit Snow White’s Scary Adventure?
· Which river is not one you explore on The Jungle Cruise?
· What is the name of your host in The Enchanted Tiki Room?

I addition, The Great Disneyland Scavenger Hunt allows guest to experience their favorite attractions in new ways.

· Did you know you can ride in the wheel house of The Mark Twain Riverboat with the captain? You even get to blow the whistle during your cruise.
· Did you know you can get a phone call from Mickey Mouse on your birthday?
· The large yellow mushroom that stands outside the Alice in Wonderland attraction was once used as a ticket booth?

Even the most seasoned visitor to Disneyland resort will find something new within the page of The Great Disneyland Scavenger Hunt.

What did I think of this book:
This was a good addition to an enjoyable series. I like how each book centers around one of the Frobisher brother. The time period in which this book and the entire series takes place is one of my favorite time periods. I thought the author did a good job of describing the settings and each of the characters. You really get to know these people and by the end you feel as if they are friends. Her writing style is also good and helps the story to move right along. There is plenty of adventure mixed in with the romance to keep you interested in what is going on. This is a part of a series and I do suggest that you read them in order. With that being said I am looking forward to the last book to see how things tie up in the end.

Finding Fraser by KC Dyer - Review and Giveaway

Published: May 3, 2016
Number of pages: 368
Genre: Fiction

Synopsis:
Escape to Scotland with the delightful new novel that readers have fallen in love with—inspired by Diana Gabaldon’s #1 New York Times bestselling Outlander series.

I met Jamie Fraser when I was nineteen years old. He was tall, red-headed, and at our first meeting at least, a virgin. He was, in fact, the perfect man.
That he was fictional hardly entered into it...

On the cusp of thirty, Emma Sheridan is desperately in need of a change. After a string of failed relationships, she can admit that no man has ever lived up to her idea of perfection: the Scottish fictional star of romantic fantasies the world over—James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser.

Her ideal man might be ripped from the pages of a book, but Emma hopes that by making one life-altering decision she might be able to turn fiction into fact. After selling all her worldly possessions, Emma takes off for Scotland with nothing but her burgeoning travel blog to confide in.

But as she scours the country’s rolling green hills and crumbling castles, Emma discovers that in searching for her own Jamie Fraser, she just might find herself.

What did I think of this book:
When I first saw this book I knew I had to get it as I am such a big fan of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series that anything that connects with me jumps out. I really enjoyed this book, who would not want to set out to find their own Jaime. I thnk just about everyone who has read Diana's Outlander series would. The way the author used the blog posts as part of the storyline made it fun to read. I found myself wanting to know what Emma would post next. Emma's sister made me a little mad, why could she not be supportive of her sister instead of judging her all the time. I loved Emma's quiestion - "Well ..Where do you go when your heart is broken?" Her answer "Me? I go to the bookstore" that is so me - I go to the bookstore when I am upset as it just makes me feel better, calmer if you will.

Emma mentioned she did not watch the Ourlander series because she wanted to keep pictures of Jaime and Claire intact in her head. That is what I said too when the show first was coming out. I did not want to watch it as I had a picture of Jaime and Claire in my head and the actors picked were not it. Well I watched the show and now am so hooked and love who they got to play all of the characters and still have my own version of Jaime in my head.

Emma drove me a little crazy at times as I wanted her to hurry up and find her Fraser. Sometimes you can not see what you have until you lose something and that is excately what happened to her. Her Fraser was right there and should could not see it. At times Emma was a little niave which I suppose is a lot of people but here again at times I wanted to shake her. I felt so bad for her when all of her things were stolen and wondered ok now what but she kept on. I loved it when she got to Nairn. The town was full of great people. Morag was one of my favorite - tough out the outside but a softie on the inside. Then Ash who a good kid and Katy the librarian who kept kicking Emma off the computer and then who can forget Hamish they boyfriend who wanted nothing more then to come to America and live the California dream. Nairn is a town that would be a quaint place to stay and enjoy the scenery away from all the hustle and bustle of the big cities.

The author did a nice job of brining the story to a good ending but I was wanting just a little more. What happens next with Emma. I am glad I picked this book up and enjoyed it.

Killer Finds by Vicki Vass - Review, Guest Post and Giveaway

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review

Published: March 31, 2016
Number of pages: 210
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Series: Antique Hunters Mystery #3

Synopsis:
Antique hunter Anne Hillstrom’s whirlwind shopping tour to Paris comes to a dead stop, as dead as the man sitting next to her on the plane. And to make matters worse, her identity has been stolen, leaving her to face her worst nightmare. She must sell all her precious antiques with the help of her business partner and co-blogger, CC Muller. Together, they open a pop-up antique store in the quaint suburb of Glen Ellyn Illinois. Their blog fans flock to the store looking to find that perfect treasure and so does a killer. When the Sweet Shop lady next door is found caramelized, the success of the pop-up sale turns bittersweet. Anne and CC dust off the clues, unraveling a centuries-old mystery that leads them to one conclusion. They must find the killer before the killer finds them.

What did I think of this book:
I was happy to get to go on another adventure with antique hunter Anne because this time she went to a place I dream of going Paris. Now I would not want to be a part of finding a dead person especially one sitting next to me. I felt so bad for Anne as here she is in another country, a dead body found and her identity stolen. What more could go wrong. Well there was plenty as the story goes along. The good thing is she got to try her hand with her antique selling at a pop up store and she got to meet a lot of nice people along her journey. I like Vicki's writing style and like all good mystery writers she gave me just enough clues to keep me guessing until the real murderer is found. This is a quick read to enjoy while lounging by the pool. Although this is the third book in a series you will do fine reading it as a stand alone book. I am looking forward to more books in this series.

Making history come alive

Since I was little, I’ve been fascinated by history and by reading. I read my way through the young adult fiction, including the historical novels of the six wives of King Henry VIII, the biographies of the first ladies and other famous women, including the career of Nellie Blye, the first female journalist, and Florence Nightingale.

I also read mysteries from Nancy Drew to Cherry Ames to Vicki Barr. I read through Agatha Christie. Later I graduated to the gothic mysteries of Mary Stewart, Charlotte Armstrong and Victoria Holt.

For me, reading about history brings the past alive. I shared this love with my father who for 35 years taught American history and government on the south side of Chicago. He took me to the library, allowed me to explore and read anything I could put my hands on. By the time I was in fifth grade, I had worked my way up to adult fiction.

From the earliest time, all I ever wanted to do was write. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I wanted to write about history, make up stories, bring characters to life in their own world. My father talked me out of majoring in English, instead recommending that I major in journalism. I did and am glad I did. Working for newspapers provides experience in unbelievable ways. My career allowed me to write about everything from corrupt politics to fashion to the ongoing civil war in Sudan. It brought me a world of experience and also taught me to write quickly under constant deadline pressure.

When I began to think about fiction again, I wrote a romance novel, followed by another, then another. I had half written parts of books scattered around my house, never quite reaching fruition. It wasn’t until last summer that I sat down and wrote what would become Murder by the Spoonful, the first book in the Antique Hunters mystery series.

It started as a lark, an inside joke. For a while, I had spent weekends shopping at antique stores, flea markets, garage and estate sales with my two best friends. They became the heroines of the antique hunter series. The book practically wrote itself. It reinforced my love of both mystery and history.

My antique hunters stumble upon murder and find themselves caught up in a mystery usually related to a significant historical event. While some of the items are true and some of the facts are real, the circumstances surrounding it may be fabricated. I like blurring the line between the real and the fictional world. I like making people wonder which part is true and which is false.

To make this work, I conduct extensive research on historical time periods and world events. I have become quite knowledgeable, though not as much as CC, my heroine, in a vast array of events that have shaped our nation and the world.

And, while the stories are heavy in history, they also showcase the deep love and friendship my two heroines share for each other. No matter what happens they are friends and will stand by each other’s side as they do in real life. I am privileged to write their story, and I hope you enjoy reading about the “Spoon Sisters.”

Read to Death by Terrie Farley Moran - Review and Giveaway

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review

Published: July 5, 2016
Number of pages: 304
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Series: Read 'Em and Eat Mystery #3

Synopsis:
The national bestselling author of Caught Read-Handed revisits Fort Myers Beach, Florida, where the proprietors of a local bookstore café occasionally take a stab at solving murder…

At their seaside Read ‘Em and Eat bookstore café, Sassy Cabot and Bridgy Mayfield offer fresh scones, great books, and excellent detective work…

With their book club season wrapping up with The Florida Life of Thomas Edison, Sassy and Bridgy decide to take their group on a day trip to the beautiful Edison and Ford Winter Estates. Hiring driver Oscar Frieland, who’s known for his colorful stories and love of the café’s Robert Frost fruit tartlets, the bibliophiles set off for a day of sunshine and history.

After a lovely excursion, the club returns to the café for lunch and a book discussion, but the group falls silent after Oscar is found dead in his van. The sheriff’s deputies have some questions of their own for the group, and if the ladies don’t find some answers soon, the next book they read might be from a prison library.

What did I think of this book:
I have been enjoying this series from the beginning and this latest edition was not exception. The location of the book is perfect for me as I have been to Fort Myers a few time and then the bookstore cafe what could be better for the backdrop of this series. I have driven by the Edison and Ford Winter Estates but have yet to actually visit but will one day. Then we have the mystery of Oscar dead in the van. Who would have done this? The author gave us many clues to think I was on the right track then gives a little twist to let me know I do not know. She did a good job of keeping me guessing up until the end of the book. Another part of the book I enjoyed was the characters. You have the snowbirds and the regulars which is typical of Florida especially that area. The authors writing style is very light and flowing which makes your reading time just fly by. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

What did I think of this book:
I have heard the name Stella & Dot but did not know much about them. This book stood out to me because the author was telling me how to live life on my own terms. That is something everyone should do. With that being said this is a good book to help you achieve this. I like how she not only tells you how to do the things she wrote about but she has practiced them herself. She also shared the stories of other people she has met that have been succesful. I thought her writing style was very easy to read - it did not read so much like a self-help book but more like a conversation for me. This book deserves a second reading.
